Video: Bill Passes the Senate

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Legislation to strengthen the reading skills of Mississippi children and build on early childhood educaction through public-private partnership has passed the Senate.

Senate Bill 2347 sponsored by Senator Angela Hill of Picayune, will require third grade students to read at grade level before moving to the fourth grade in 2014 and 2015 school year. Currently only 47% of Mississippi students read at grade level. The Senate is looking at ways to raise the bar on education to help students be more successful and teachers agree.

Bill 2347 will now go before the House for approval.
