STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Christmas is just a couple days away but Monday morning, it was business as usual for the Starkville and Oktibbeha County Schools Consolidation Commission.
The commission continued discussions about the consolidation process which will officially take place in July 2015. Architecture Firm Shafer & Associates gave recommendations about renovating elementary schools in Maben and Sturgis. Gary Shafer says it could cost nearly five and half million dollars. They also talked about consolidating the two schools but no final decisions were made.
“We’re trying to identify all of the things that we need to consider in order to make a decision. We much would’ve like to be able to make a decision right now but of course, it’s just premature because they’re so many unknown variables,” says Oktibbeha County Board Supervisor, Orlando Trainer.>
Trainer says the consolidation process will continue even after the districts are officially merged.
