Treasurer, College Savings MS To Host Scholarship Contests

JACKSON, Miss. (PRESS RELEASE) – For the second year in a row, State Treasurer Lynn Fitch and College Savings Mississippi are offering 12 Mississippians the opportunity to win $529 scholarships at the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State Basketball Championships at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson, March 10-12, 2016.

“Studies show when you invest in a child’s future education, she or he is seven times more likely to pursue a degree,” said Treasurer Fitch.

“Through this partnership with the Mississippi High School Activities Association, we have the opportunity to give twelve families the kick start they need to save for their children’s future.”

College Savings Mississippi will host a Savings Shootout during halftime at each of the 12 championship games throughout the weekend.

Two contestants will be randomly chosen from entrants to participate at each game.

Each participant will have 60 seconds to shoot as many free-throws as possible and the contestant with the highest number of shots made will win a $529 Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) Program scholarship.

Participants must be Mississippi residents and must be able to shoot a free throw at MHSAA Regulation goal height.

College Savings Mississippi is a division of the State Treasurer’s Office and operates the two state-sponsored 529 college savings plans, MACS and MPACT (Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Tuition).
