COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s back-to-school time for a lot of people but what can you do if your school days are over and you still want to learn something new? Thanks to volunteers and the support of the community, MUW’s Life Enrichment Program is helping people have more fulfilling lives. Ben Ross is taking a water aerobics class. He’s just one of many in the Columbus area who takes classes on a wide range of topics at MUW.

“These life enrichment programs, they have a bunch of different courses. This would be good exercise I thought,” says Ross.

The Life Enrichment Program at MUW offers adults the opportunity to enhance their lives through classes. The Splash Time water aerobics class allows seniors to live a healthier lifestyle. Volunteer instructors offer classes that range from acrylics, to drawing, resume writing, Microsoft Word and a variety of exercise courses. Ann Sparkman just started the Splash Time class held in the Stark Recreation Center on campus.

“It really helps you get your heart rate going without hurting your knees, your ankles or your hips. You don’t feel like you would on the ground. The water helps you resist and give you more of a workout,” says Sparkman.

Each term of the Life Enrichment Program is six weeks long and you can enroll in up to five classes for just $35. These are non-credit courses for adults looking to meet new people, have fun and learn something new.

“There’s also good networking. You meet people in the community. It really enriches your life. It’s a life enrichment program and it’s true to its name,” says Ross.

The classes are held once a week and will last for at least an hour. Life Enrichment courses are also taught away from MUW’s campus. For more information on the Life Enrichment Program, go to www.muw.edu/lep or call 662-329-7150.
