STARKVILLE, Miss.–A striking image created by a senior Mississippi State art student is among those featured in the Oregon-based Black Box Gallery’s “Poetics of Light” online-annex photography exhibition.

Completed during a spring 2014 photography survey class, Ronnie B. Robinson’s piece titled “Fire Man” is one of 54 photographs selected for the juried group photography show focusing on the quality and drama of light in photography. The daughter of Ronny and Donna Robinson of West Point, her work also will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books. According to the Black Box Gallery’s website, “Light is the foundation of great photography and photographers need to know the importance of seeing and controlling the luminosity of light in pictures. Exposure, direction, highlight, shadow and contrast all play a major role in creating striking and magical pictures.”

Serving as juror for “Poetics of Light” was Tricia Hoffman, executive director of Newspace Center for Photography in Portland, Oregon.

“In this image the play on fire as the light source to illuminate the fireman’s face is both clever and a technical challenge that Ronnie worked hard to capture,” said assistant professor Dominic Lippillo. “Ronnie also had an image published this semester in the 35th Annual Best of College and High School Photography 2014 publication,” he said, adding that “I can’t wait to see where her work ends up next.”
