UNDATED, Miss. (WCBI)-It’s received a lot of debate in Jackson. But, in a surprise move, state Senators will continue to allow school districts to elect their board members.

The Senate has amended legislation requiring all local school board members to be elected, choosing instead to appoint a study task force.

The bill establishing the task force now goes to the house for a final decision.

Most school districts in Mississippi have an appointed school board.
