WATER VALLEY, Miss. (WCBI) — Water Valley’s football program has most definitely arrived onto the scene in the Magnolia State.

Don’t believe it? The Blue Devils have notched four straight seasons with 10 wins or more and this past year they reached their best record since 1996.

They’ve made their mark on a yearly basis in the win column and that has brought heightened expectations from the fan base and from head coach Brad Embry.

“Our expectations are always to compete in our region,” coach Embry said. “We always want to make a deep run in the playoffs and compete for a State Championship. We’re at that level now as a program and it is achievable.”

Gone are big name seniors E.J. Bounds and T.T. Person but the Blue Devils have plenty of horses in the stable that are ready to make Water Valley a title contender once again in class 3A.

“I think we’ll be dynamic offensively and defensively,” Embry said. “We have a lot of playmakers back on both sides of the ball and we’ll be a fun team to watch. How we mature and play complete games will be the key to how many games we’ll win.”

While the victories have come at Water Valley, the Blue Devils continue to chomp at the bit for a shot at making a run in the playoffs.

Could this be the year Water Valley breaks through? Coach Embry has no doubts.

“Definitely if we mature. We lost a lot of kids the past couple years. Maybe not a lot of experience but time will tell.

“How we mature as a team individually and collectively instead of being a second round team and maybe we may have a chance to make it to Jackson.”

Water Valley begins the season at home versus New Albany before visiting cross-town foe Coffeeville the following week.
