LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — There may not be another high school team in the state with more expectations riding on the 2013 season than the Louisville Wildcats.

The community, the fans and the state all have slotted the Cats as the team to beat in Class 3A.

Handling those expectations is a game of its own for Coach M.C. Miller and Louisville.

“We’re handling it pretty well and the kids are up for the season,” coach Miller said. “The main thing is I have to keep them motivated. Right now, we’re headed for a State Championship. It won’t be easy. No one will lay down. We’re trying to get prepared for that and work harder to get there.”

The reason for those expectations? One of the best senior classes to come around Louisville in school history. Over 30 seniors on a roster littered with talent, which makes the Wildcats experienced and dangerous.

“If I get that State Championship, then my dream would have come true,” senior linebacker Jeremy Sangster said. “I’ve been dreaming as a little kid of a State Championship and getting that big rock on my finger.”

If Sangster and the Seniors can put that big rock on their hand, it’ll be their signal caller that more than likely gets them there.

Senior Wyatt Roberts is in his 4th season starting for the Toothpick. The Jacksonville State commit now has the keys to the Wildcats car, and he’s driving it straight to Jackson.

“It’s a great responsibility (being a leader),” Roberts said. “It’s fun to lead these guys on the field every Friday night. Having them behind me, we have to play hard and nothing less.

“I’ve been coaching 40 years, and he’s the most accurate quarterback I’ve ever had,” coach Miller said of Roberts. “He does a great job plus we have receivers to go along with him. We have 5 or 6 receivers that can catch the ball. We’ll throw the ball quite a bit since it’s our best weapon.”

It has been five long years since the last time the Gold Ball came to Louisville, but 2013 may be the time it returns. The Wildcats are poised to add State Title number eight to the trophy case after it’s all said and done.
