PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) —

ROBBY DONOHO: New season, new coach, new team – That’s what the Pontotoc Warriors will be enduring this season. After the departure of Ken Byars and 1,000 yard rusher Deonte Dilworth, them Grapes have begun a new era at The Hollow – that will be led by former Clinton and Northwest Rankin head coach Scott Brown.

SCOTT BROWN: It’s always exciting to start something new with a new place. I’m relatively new to the north but I went to school at Mississippi State. I’m familiar with Starkville and that area. I’m a firm believer that kids are kids no matter where you go. They want to play hard for their town and community. They want to work hard to be the best they can.

DONOHO: This year, experience will be limited… but Colton Bramlett and Nicky Martin do return on the defense and back-up tailback Jon Hall will take over the full-time duties in the backfield.

BROWN: We’re gonna have so many new faces. Guys that haven’t had significant playing time before. Really from a large stand point that you look at our time, the majority of them will be getting significant playing time for the first time this season. It will be brand new for them just like it will be brand new for me.

DONOHO: Brown inherits a 4-7 team from last year that saw the Warriors drop five of their last six…this season, it’s about building from the ground up, and restoring the tradition of Pontotoc football.

BROWN: If you look around at teams that are successful around the state, it’s usually the deal that all the guys at the school are keyed in and want to be a part of the football program. They grow up wanting to be a part of the team, wanting to make their mark in their town and community. That’s the biggest thing we want to build here. The kids should come up and want to be a part of that, getting as many of those kids out competing on Friday nights in the football season.
