WATER VALLEY, Miss. (WCBI) – The next stop on our high school football tour takes us to Water Valley. The Blue Devils have 11 returning starters, including a QB in E.J. Bounds who’s drawing attention from some SEC schools.
“We had a good year last year,” Head Coach Brad Embry said. “We finished 10-3. I think anytime you get 10 wins and make it to the second round of the playoffs you’re successful. I did think, however, we possibly could have gone a few more rounds, but that happens. You have a bad game in the playoffs, you’re done. So, overall a good year. We’re hoping for the same or better this year.”
“When you have a senior quarterback, E.J. has actually started since the ninth grade, it’s definitely a confidence boost for me and the coaching staff as well as the other players because you know what you’re getting,” Embry said. “You’ve got a guy who can get you in good plays and out of bad plays on the field and a guy who brings confidence to the huddle, a guy who’s been there and done that. He’s played in a lot of big games over his first three years and been effective. It’s definitely always a plus when you have your quarterback coming back.”
