Annual American Radio Relay League’s (ARRL) Field Day
Date(s) - 06/22/2013-06/23/2013
The annual American Radio Relay League’s (ARRL) Field Day will be held June 22nd and 23rd at Camp Seminole. The Mississippi State University Amateur Radio Club (W5YD) and the Magnolia Amateur Radio Club (MagARC) are working together to bring a section of Field Day to the Oktibbeha county area. The event will begin at 1:00 pm Saturday and continue until 1:00 pm Sunday. Visitors may come and go as they please. Prior to field day activities, a general introduction to amateur radio will begin at 11:00 am on June 22nd to present the hobby to the public. An amateur radio licensing exam will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday the 22nd for those wishing to be licensed or to upgrade. Field Day is free and open to the public.
Field Day is an amateur radio emergency operations practice event where stations are set up in the field under typical emergency conditions. Amateur radio (also known as ham) operators nationwide will set up stations and equipment, and they will try to contact as many other stations as they can. This will be a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in or curious about amateur radio to see what it is all about and experience talking on the radio. Hams and non-hams are welcome to come and participate. There will be licensed ham radio operators present who can help answer questions and get beginners started on the radio.
To reach Camp Seminole from Starkville, Mississippi, follow the US 82 bypass, then take the Downtown / Miss. 389 exit going north for two miles. Turn right on Sun Creek Road and drive one mile to the camp.
