Those that registered and did not request a refund for the 2011 parade can carry over their fee for this year. In the unfortunate event of bad weather during the parade this year, a reschedule date has been set for the following Monday, December 10, 2012. Any registrants in the parade should be prepared to participate on the alternate date is necessary.
The November 26 application deadline is quickly approaching. All those planning to participate should make sure to return applications to the Main Street Columbus office by the deadline. Everyone is encouraged and invited to participate in the parade. The parade entry fees are the same as last year and are set at $35 for non-profit organizations, walking groups, floats, beauty queens and personalities. The fee for businesses is $50. Cash prizes will be awarded in the following categories: $75 awarded for First place, $50 awarded for Second and $25 awarded for Third place in the Best Business Entry and Best Group/Organization Entry categories and $50 will be awarded for Best Overall Band. “We are working to secure several local school bands, floats, Santa Claus, Miz Claus and special characters for the parade so this year promises to just as entertaining and previous Christmas Parades”, said Amber Brislin, Main Street Columbus Director. The theme of the 2012 Christmas Parade is “Going Green – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”. Participants are encouraged to use recycled and reused materials in the construction of their floats. “ We feel this theme will bring out a great deal of creativity in the community but will also be a theme where people can express themselves in renewing the spirit of Christmas,” said Brislin.
“This year’s Grand Marshall will be decided in the upcoming weeks by the Christmas Parade committee,” stated Brislin. The community is welcome to nominate people to serve as the Grand Marshall by contacting Brislin at the Main Street Columbus office.
