‘Grilling on the River 13’, Announces Return of Annual BBQ Championship and Food Fair

“Friendly City” Spring Favorite, Returns to Once Again Focus on Food, Fun and Family.”
Columbus, Ms… “Grilling On The River, (GOTR)” committee was thrilled to announced today that plans are underway for the return of “Grilling On The River ’13,” a “Kansas City Barbeque Society” (KCBS) sanctioned / “Magnolia State Barbeque Championship and Food Fair,” family event which benefits the Columbus-Lowndes Humane Society and the Lowndes Community Foundation. The event will be held April 12 & 13, 2013, along the Columbus Riverwalk in Columbus, MS. This year’s experience cordially invites the general public to celebrate the return of the annual festival, (after a brief hiatus), with no gate admission. For participants- a separate “Pro” and “Amateur” division is offered, with a guaranteed purse for the “Pro” division of $8,000.00* and the “Amateur” division of $1,000.00*.
The occasion itself is sanctioned by the “Kansas City Barbeque Society” (KCBS), which is headquartered in Kansas City, MO. The KCBS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and enjoying barbeque, is the world’s largest organization of barbeque and grilling enthusiasts with over 17,000 members worldwide. KCBS sanctions over 380 barbeque contests coast-to-coast throughout America. From volunteering to actual event production, our members also offer assistance to civic and charitable organizations who organize events.
This year’s festival promises to flourish even more with the support and sponsorship of the Columbus Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), of Columbus, Mississippi. The CVB is dedicated to building a positive image of Columbus through tourism, convention development, major events, and through marketing the community to a national audience. This year’s GOTR will fall on the final weekend of the73rd Annual Spring Pilgrimage for Columbus and its historic, lovely Antebellum Homes and history of Columbus. In addition to the contest itself, food and area craft vendors will be on site to offer their ware. Family entertainment is also being presented. Columbus character favorite “Mother Goose” will be on-hand, along with “Jump-N-G’s Inflatable’s,” a carnival, face painting, Kids-que’ing, with displays from the Columbus Police, Columbus Fire Department, Army National Guard and Lowndes Sheriff Dept. Other family entertainment options are being discussed as of press time and will be made public as events are confirmed. Entertainment throughout the weekend is to be provided by local and area musicians. The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, but please no personal coolers.
Entry fees for teams are as follows:
“Pro”: $250.00 before April 1st–$300.00 after/
Electricity and water will be available at no charge.
Port-a-Johns will be available for $100.00 for the weekend
