Pianist to present Friday concert at MUW

COLUMBUS, Miss.—A Russian-born pianist who now is a professor at The University of Georgia Hodgson School of Music will appear in recital Friday evening [March 22] at Mississippi University for Women.
The free 7:30 p.m. event in the Connie Sills Kossen Auditorium is sponsored by the Leslie F. Threadgill Lecture and Artists Series and includes selections from Beethoven, Liszt and Debussy.
Born in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, Rivkin received his early training at the Nizhny Novgorod College of Music, earning both his master’s and doctorate from the Moscow Conservatory. Among his many honors, he has won top prizes in the Bavarian Radio Musik Competition in Munich, the International Tchaikovsky Competition of St. Petersburg, The USSR National Piano Competition in Moscow and the International McMahon Piano Competition held in Oklahoma.
He performs as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Russia, Canada, Brazil and Europe and has appeared in major venues that include Carnegie Hall in New York and the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory.
While at MUW, he also will teach a Saturday master class at 10 a.m. in the Kossen Auditorium. This event is also open to the public.
