“Poverty is everyone’s problem. It cuts across any line you can name: age, race, social, geographic or religious. Whether you are black or white; rich, middle-class, or poor, we are ALL touched by poverty.” -Former governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco
Starkville Bridges is hosting The Summer Soiree fundraiser on Thursday, May 16, from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm at the Hunter Henry Center on the MSU campus. “It is great for Starkville to have a classy and fun event like this! There is nothing like it anytime during the year!” said Jacque Deeds, last year’s Soiree attendee. “This year we plan on having great food to pair with beverage tastings” said Lynn Phillips-Gaines, President of Starkville Bridges Board. “We hope locals will put this event on their calendar from year to year!” Phillips Gaines said.
By supporting the The Summer Soiree fundraiser proceeds will provide for the 2013 Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin’ by World class. The classes are one component of the Starkville Bridges initiative, where people struggling to make it financially learn about the causes of poverty, the hidden rules of the middle-class, and how to build resources for individuals in low-income situations.
Starkville Bridges is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to eradicating poverty in Oktibbeha County by breaking down existing paradigms about poverty and providing education and resources to people in poverty to transition into the middle class.
The cost to attend The Summer Soiree fundraiser is $100 online, and $125 at the door. Also, organizations or individuals may sponsor the event through buying a table for $1000. Any of these tickets may be purchased in advance online at http://starkvillebridgessoiree.eventzilla.net.
