COLUMBUS, Miss. — Mississippi University for Women and the Columbus Arts Council will host the National Museum of Women in the Arts – Mississippi State Committee (NMWA-MSC) March 4 and 5 on The W campus in Columbus.
The event will kick off with a reception at the Rosenzweig Arts Center Monday night.
The annual conference will include an art exhibit in the Eugenia Summer Gallery at 10 a.m., a musical recital in the Kossen Auditorium of the historic Poindexter Hall at 1:30 p.m. and dessert by the renowned MUW Culinary Arts Institute following the recital.
Tickets are $35 and the deadline to register for the event is March 1st. For more information or to register for the event, email Lillian Wade at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Mississippi State Committee raises the museum’s profile and does grassroots advocacy on behalf of women artists in the region. They plan local programs that highlight NMWA’s mission, exhibitions, collection, and activities. Committee members work with NMWA staff to increase membership; donate works of art; and fund exhibitions, education programs, and object conservation.
The MSC recognizes the outstanding achievements of women art students at the universities in the state. Ariel Shuffield, an art student at The W, received one of three scholarships awarded by the MSC this academic year.
The National Museum of Women in the Arts is located at 1250 New York Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C., in a landmark building near the White House. For more information about NMWA, call (202) 783-5000 or visit www.nmwa.org, Broad Strokes Blog, Facebook or Twitter.
