Tupelo Christmas Parade to Get ‘Healthy’

TUPELO, Miss. — The Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association and Reed’s announced the Healthy Tupelo Task Force would be the Grand Marshals of 2012 Reed’s Tupelo Christmas Parade.

The 2012 theme for the annual Reed’s Christmas Parade is “Have a Healthy Christmas.”  Organizers thought this would be very fitting since Tupelo was named the healthiest city in Mississippi earlier this year.

The Healthy Tupelo Task Force was started by Mayor Jack Reed, Jr. This task force’s goal is to make Tupelo the healthiest city in Mississippi. This year, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi named Tupelo as “Mississippi’s Healthiest Hometown” with an award of $50,000 that will help fund the continuation of healthy initiatives in Tupelo. The Healthy Tupelo Task Force works to bring all the resources of the community together to launch projects not only at improving health status in Tupelo, but also encouraging the enactment of healthy policy changes that will impact the health of the citizenry of Tupelo in a positive manner and get Tupeloans of all ages moving toward healthier lifestyles.

“I can’t think of better Grand Marshals for this year than the citizen volunteers of the Mayor’s Healthy City Task Force. Their unselfish works have brought us a healthier city and a $50,000 first prize!” says Mayor Jack Reed, Jr.

The Reed’s Tupelo Christmas Parade, properly themed “Have a Healthy Christmas” parade will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1st on the streets of Downtown Tupelo.  Groups can register to be in the parade by downloading the application off the DTMSA website, www.tupelomainstreet.com, or picking up an application at the DTMSA office, located at 108 S. Broadway Street in downtown Tupelo. The registration deadline is Friday, Nov. 9.
