WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — The spirit of giving is in the air and one Clay County church is making sure those in need are not forgotten.

Youth members of Payne Chapel Church are volunteering with the Contact Helpline program to provide gifts for the elderly this
Christmas. Contact Helpline provides daily calls to the elderly and disabled who live alone throughout the year. Gift boxes include blankets, toiletries and everyday items. Director Mary Vance says this is a great way to teach children how to give back especially during the holiday season.

“We want our young people to understand that Christmas is about more than just receiving,” says Vance.

“It’s really fun doing it because you can go out, see the elderly people, make them laugh and that kind of stuff,” says 13-year old Jonathan Kay.

Payne Chapel Church youth members have delivered gifts to the elderly at Christmas since 2011.
