TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) –  Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton started a 75 hour Bible reading marathon Monday morning at Veteran’s Park.

Volunteers will read through the Bible over the next few days, ending in the book of Revelation just in time for a noontime observance of the National Day of Prayer Thursday at Tupelo City Hall.

“It’s just to get God’s word back out into our community. This is God’s land, this is God’s community and people are starting to forget that and we’re trying to get God’s word back out, leading up to the actual National Day of Prayer,” said Volunteer, Allison Pounds.

There are still slots opened for the reading at Veteran’s Park. If you would like to volunteer, call Sonya Butler at 662 871 3049.
