Video: Fatal House Fire in Starkville

STARVILLE, Miss. – (WCBI) An elderly Starkville woman dies in an afternoon house fire. The blaze broke out at a home on Everglade Street around 1 p.m Thursday.

Captain Frank Nichols with the Starkville Police Department confirms that the elderly homeowner did not make it out of the house in time.

Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt says it appears 86-year old Mary Elizabeth Foster died of smoke inhalation. Hunt says while foul play is not suspected, her body has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy.

A man, who was also in the house at the time, suffered from smoke inhalation. He was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center. His name and condition have not yet been released.

Meanwhile, the brick house suffered heavy damage. Fire investigators have not yet determined the cause of Thursday’s fire.
