Rendering of Fayette water park

FAYETTE, Ala. (WCBI) — A West Alabama town hopes a big investment will make a big splash with residents and tourists alike.

Fayette, Ala., will open a new $2.3 million city-owned water park this weekend. The park features three full size slides, a 54 hundred square foot pool, a splash pad, kids play area, sun bathing areas, concession stands and other features.

City leaders hope the facility will attract families from throughout the region, increasing revenues for local businesses and the city.

The facility also will offer swim lessons, water exercise programs and CPR and lifeguard training. Thirty-two area teenagers and young adults have been hired as lifeguards and all are Red Cross certified.

Work started on the park early last year after more than a year of feasibility studies.
