No New Taxes

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – There will be no new taxes for Tupelo residents. In a 6 to 1 vote, city leaders passed a $32 million budget Thursday (9/5) afternoon . They also passed an $18 million capital spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year. Together, the budgets fund the daily business of city government, along with a host of major projects and purchases. Among them is a new indoor aquatic facility on which construction is set to start later this month.

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – City leaders in Tupelo are having one final review of next year’s proposed budget before voting on it. The proposed $32 million budget funds the day to day business of municipal government. Wednesday (9/5), the council held a final workshop on the proposed spending plan. Council members are also expected to approve the capital budget which includes improvements to streets and neighborhoods, along with an indoor aquatic center. There are 618 employees in city government. The budget has to be approved by mid-September. It takes effect October 1.
