LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss.(WCBI)–While lawmakers are in Jackson Tuesday for the 2016 session, there is a cry from their constituents at home who want better roads and bridges.

The 1987 four-lane highway construction project which took 20 years has been successful. But when looking at future projects, construction costs are up.

About 7 county bridges need attention and there are plans in place to improve four of them.

Although roads and bridges need attention, from what we understand of the 82 counties, roads and bridges in Lowndes and Clay over all are in pretty good condition.

In Lowndes County, road supervisor Ronnie Burns is given the task of maintaining county roads.

“We’ve had a lot of rain this winter and thats damaged the roads a pretty good bit and everything. And we’re hoping to get more money to do more paving with. And one of the most interesting things I’m trying to do is we need stripping on a lot of the roads,” said Ronnie Burns/Lowndes County Road Manager.

Having done such a good job of maintenance, Lowndes County Supervisors agreed to raise Road Manager Ronnie Burns’ salary to 80 thousand dollars a year.
