Video: Former MLB All-Star Shares His Wisdom With Students

SCOOBA, Miss. (WCBI)-A former Major League Baseball All-Star gave some advice to EMCC students on Wednesday.

Darryl Strawberry spoke to a packed crowd filled with students, athletes, and faculty.

During the seminar, Strawberry talked about the importance of making the right choices and living the right kind of lifestyle.
The four-time World Champion had many distractions during his 17-year career including his battles with drug abuse.

The former MLB slugger talked about those obstacles and how he had to overcome them.

Now, Strawberry is using his past experiences to show students what can happen if they choose to make poor decisions.

He also talked about the importance of knowing yourself and living life with a purpose.

“I think college students and athletes on the campus struggle a lot with who they are,” said Strawberry. “I think they identify themselves with the uniform and they have to get beyond that, because once you begin to understand the purpose for your life, it’s not about you, it’s about who you can help.”

Strawberry is now an ordained minister.  He said it’s important for him to continue to spread his message to both students and athletes everywhere so they don’t make the same mistakes that he did.
