Former Water Valley Officer Prison Bound

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – A former Water Valley police office has been sentenced to one year in prison for receiving money from a drug trafficker in return for information about law enforcement.

John David Hernandez, a 35-year-old of Olive Branch man, was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Oxford.

A news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office said he pleaded guilty in July to one count of extortion under color of official right, one count of money laundering, and one count of obstruction of a federal investigation.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says it also obtained the forfeiture of $5,000.

U.S. Attorney Felicia C. Adams says “Hernandez’s actions were reprehensible.”
