Video: Governor Orders New Round Of Budget Cuts

JACKSON (WCBI) – A new round of budget cuts is coming for most state agencies.

Governor Phil Bryant says revenue continues to lag behind projections forcing him to make the move.   Cuts will be 0.9% for most state agencies with education being cut for the first time.  That cut will be 0.5% of the budget.  The only agencies not being cut are Student Financial Aid, The Mississippi Schools for the Blind and Deaf, MEMA, Mental Health and Child Protection Services.   The agency cuts are expected to save $36 million dollars.  Bryant is shifting $7 million from the rainy day fund to reach the $43 million dollars in needed savings.    State law requires the state to have a balanced budget at the end of the fiscal year.
