Hank Makes Move In Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – The city of Montgomery has moved a statue of country singer Hank Williams to a more visible spot.

News outlets report that the statue had overlooked City Hall on Perry Street since it was donated to the city by Hank Williams Jr. in 1991.

On Monday it was moved to Commerce Street, down the street from the Hank Williams Museum in the heart of the downtown entertainment district.

Montgomery Director of General Services Steve Jones says officials wanted to make the statue more visible, especially for the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit the entertainment district each year.

Williams was born in Butler County in 1923 and moved to Montgomery with his mother in 1937. He is buried in Montgomery’s Oak Wood Cemetery.
