Three Under Home Quarantine After Exposure To Measles

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Four Mississippi residents are clear of any risk of measles but officials are monitoring three others.

Health Department spokeswoman Liz Sharlot says all seven are residents of north Mississippi. She says the three at risk are under home quarantine after possible exposure in Tennessee’s Shelby County.

That county shares a border with Mississippi and is experiencing an outbreak that began in early April.

The county has reported seven confirmed measles cases as of Tuesday.

The four Mississippians released from home quarantine were also exposed there.

The department says all Mississippians need vaccinations. State epidemiologist Thomas Dobbs says those who haven’t been vaccinated are most at risk of the highly contagious, airborne disease.

Anyone exposed to measles should call the department if they develop a fever or rash within 21 days.
