HOULKA, Miss. (WCBI) -Students at Houlka high School received a valuable lesson about the importance of safe driving.

The high school and the Mississippi Highway Patrol hosted a simulator to show students the importance of buckling up, and the dangers of drunk and distracted driving.

Students also had the chance to drive the impaired vision practice course.

Students put on “drunk goggles” and tried to navigate through cones to show them the difficulty of drinking and driving and understanding why they shouldn’t do it.

“Well, I want the kids to know life is all about choices and it’s really the good choices they need to make.”

“I have some family members that drink and drive and next time I see them try to drink and drive I’ll take the keys away from them.”

This is the first year the school has hosted the event. They plan to make it an annual one.
