WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) – As more and more county owned hospitals are gobbled up by corporations, Montgomery County’s primary care facility keeps running along independently.

Now the task of keeping Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona humming along falls on the shoulders of a new administrator. Eddie Rutherford is taking over as leader of the facility. He is no stranger to the staff having served as pharmacy director for the past 7 years while also serving as a clinical instructor for the UMC Pharmacy school. Rutherford says keeping Tyler Holmes debt free like it is now is important but making certain local residents have access to good doctors and comprehensive care is paramount.

“At a community based hospital we have more personalized health care system with our patients we know our patients i’d feel like the connectivity is actually there and you are not just a number here at Tyler Holmes”

The facility boasts an around the clock level four trauma center along with a 25 bed acute care hospital and in house labs and diagnostic capabilities. Rutherford takes over for Rosemond Tyler who is retiring from the post
