COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -A new fitness center is on its way to residents living near Sim Scott Park.  District 5 Supervisor Leroy Brooks, State Representative Kabir Kareem, and the Parks and Rec Director are in the process of turning part of this community center into a fitness facility.

New equipment has already been purchased, including two treadmills and bicycles. The outside track was also repaved.

Brooks says the county sold a community center a couple of years ago. Money from that sale went towards making this facility.

Next week Brooks says residents will be able to sign up to use the exercise equipment.

“It’s not just going to be about exercise we also have people coming in to talk about eating right and dieting and other things. All too often people die young because they don’t look after themselves”

Brooks says he will also look for volunteers to teach exercise classes.

Residents will have to pay $5.00 a month to use the fitness center.
