HOULKA, Miss. (WCBI) — The 2016 Houlka Wildcats are coming into the season looking to do what has never been done in school history.

Finish above .500. Put a winning season in the books.

Heading into his fourth season as head coach, Sid Burt has spent his entire coaching career at Houlka with this group of nine seniors.

“We’re a lot more mature”, said Burt, “The kids are a lot more physical, our maxes went up a lot in the offseason, and they’re really working hard because they have the same goal in mind.

“They know it’s their last year, and they want to go out as winners.”

The 2015 Wildcats finished 2-5, but return ten starters on both sides of the ball.

“When we go to practice, we buckle down, and get done really quick, work hard at it, and when we’re in the weight room, we all try to do our best and get stronger as we go”, said senior guard/defensive tackle Rocarion Webb.

Webb said Webb is one of the “greatest coaches I’ve ever played for” and that “every time we need something, he’s there for us.”

“Besides being a good group of athletes…they’re good people”, said Burt, “They model a lot of qualities to these younger kids. They work hard, they’re here on time, they show up, they’re always positive…”
