Jackson, MS—An Itawamba County resident has been sentenced to prison for fondling a vulnerable person in Lee County, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today.

Raymond Brown, 64, of Itawamba County appeared today before Lee County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Gardner for sentencing after pleading guilty January 29 to fondling a 42 year old blind and mentally challenged woman with whom he was acquainted. Brown admitted to checking the victim out of her residential care facility, taking her home and attempting to have sex with her. Brown testified in court that he his intention was to have sex with the victim, but he was unable to perform. Judge Gardner sentenced Brown to 15 years with 12 suspended and three to serve, day for day. He must also pay a $1,000 fine, a $100 payment to the Crime Victim Compensation Fund, serve five years post release supervision and register as a sex offender. Brown will report to the Itawamba County Sheriff on June 28 to begin serving his sentence.

“This defendant did a despicable thing,” said Attorney General Hood. “I hope other perverts contemplating taking advantage of a vulnerable person will see that they will be caught. The outstanding team of investigators in our office will work day and night to catch a predator of our elderly and vulnerable.”

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorney General Sue Perry and investigated by Joe Sanderson of the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. The Attorney General’s Victim Services Division coordinated with the victim and her supporters throughout the court proceedings and the investigation. Lisa Lanham, an RN with the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control, also provided assistance on this case.
