LAMAR COUNTY, Ala. (WCBI) — A tip led law enforcement to an escapee from the Lamar County, Alabama jail on Wednesday evening.

Lamar County Sheriff Hal Allred said Jerry Duncan, 42, was captured nearly on the Alabama-Mississippi state line, just behind the Stallion Cove subdivision on Highway 96 in a wooded area.

Allred says the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Team and Alabama Department of Corrections dog team apprehended Duncan, just after 7 PM.

Allred says the dogs picked up on Duncan’s scent almost immediately and he was in custody in about 15 minutes after the dogs were released.

Duncan escaped from the Lamar County jail about 8 PM on Tuesday.

He was behind bars for two counts of sodomy, one count of rape, and one count of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.

Allred says he is still investigating how Duncan escaped from the jail.

He also believe Duncan had help before or after escaping.

Lamar County deputies, Vernon police, U.S. Marshals, the Alabama Department of Corrections, and a Tuscaloosa police department helicopter helped investigators search for Duncan on Wednesday.
