Liquor Transport Bill Vetoed

(JACKSON, Ms) (WCBI) Governor Phil Bryant has vetoed a Senate bill which would have okayed the transport of beer and whiskey through dry counties

The new law would have let motorists carry a small amount of beer , wine and hard liquor in their cars through dry counties as long as they were headed for a county where alcohol sales are allowed.

For example, someone who bought liquor in Columbus could have carried it through Itawamba County, which is dry, if their final destination was Lee County where liquor sales are also legal .

In his veto message, Governor Bryant says that it would have been too much of a burden on law enforcement to prove what a persons final destination was. Bryant also says the language defining how much could have been transported was also not specific enough.
