10 Year Tax Exemption Granted for Weyerhaeuser

LOWNDES CO, (Miss)- Lowndes County Supervisors sign-off on a tax exemption for the Weyerhaeuser Plant.

During Friday’s Board of Supervisor’s meeting, the Vice President Mill Manager David Phillips asked the board for a 10-year tax exemption.

Supervisors questioned whether or not the exemption would role over once the plant is officially bought.

Phillips says the agreemment will transfer.

Last week the company announced International Paper is expected to take over the facilities late this year.

It’s a $2.2 billion deal.

420 people currently work at Weyerhauser. No word yet on how jobs will be impacted.
