MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Two children receive minor injuries, and one is left critically injured after an ATV accident this afternoon in Monroe County.

According to Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell, three Monroe County children — 15-year-old Amber Plunkett, 8-year-old Jada Hill and 11-year-old Tyler Hill — were riding a brand-new ATV today at the intersection of Jonesboro Rd. and Burr Rd.

Cantrell said the driver, Plunkett, went off road, but maintained a slow speed as she, with Jada and Tyler riding on the same ATV, began driving up an embankment. While making way up the steep slope, the 4-wheeler’s weight shifted to the back and flipped vertically on its back.

Though Plunkett and Jada escaped with minor injuries, Tyler was left with critical injuries. He was airlifted to the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where he remains in critical condition.

Cantrell said Plunkett had just received the 4-wheeler Thursday, and had limited training on how to properly ride the vehicle.

The exact nature of Tyler’s injuries were unknown at the time of this post.

This incident comes after 15-year-old Clay County teen Taylor Dragoo died following an ATV accident Monday.
