TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — It was back to school time at Tupelo’s Mall at Barnes Crossing Saturday.

And the line was quite long for the United Way’s annual back pack giveaway. Several businesses including Toyota paid the twelve and a half dollars for the back packs and more than 12-hundred were handed out.

Melinda Tidwell is Executive Director of United Way of Northeast Mississippi. She says these back packs are very important for the children.

“Well absolutely. I mean it does a lot for that child’s self confidence to be able to start the school year off with everything that he needs everything that the other kids might have so we think it’s important,” she says.

Tidwell says the back pack giveaway was part of the annual back to school resource fair at the mall to allow parents to obtain the resources they need in order to best prepare their children for back to school.
