15 to Compete for MSU Title

STARKVILLE, Miss.–Four sophomores, three freshmen, two juniors and a doctoral student from throughout Mississippi, as well as West Alabama, are competing for the title of Miss Mississippi State University 2014.

Taking place Nov. 15, the pageant gets under way at 7 p.m. in Lee Hall’s Bettersworth Auditorium.

General admission is $10; $5 for enrolled MSU students with identification. Tickets are available from the Center for Student Activities in Colvard Student Union or online at www.events.msstate.edu/tickets/.

The winner will represent MSU next summer in the Miss Mississippi Pageant in Vicksburg, where the winner there will advance to the Miss America Pageant.

This year’s contestants include (by hometown):

AMORY–Junior Randi-Kathryn Harmon, a communication/public relations and broadcasting major and the daughter of Randy and Cindy Harmon. She is a 2011 Amory High School and 2013 Itawamba Community College graduate.

BRANDON–Sophomore Breana D. Thames, a chemical engineering major and the daughter of Dominica Thames. She is a 2012 Northwest Rankin High School graduate.

BROOKHAVEN–Junior Laura Lee Lewis, an elementary education major and the daughter of Mark and Lorin Lewis. She is a 2011 Brookhaven High School graduate.

COLUMBUS–Freshman Raven D. Ponds, a social work major and the daughter of Stephen and Rebecca Williams, and Stanley Jones. She is a 2012 Columbus High School graduate.

GORE SPRINGS–Sophomore Heather M. Haynes, an anthropology major and the daughter of Stacy and Blue Breland, and Steve Haynes. She is a 2012 Kirk Academy graduate.

KOSCIUSKO–Sophomore Meredith Thomas, a biological science major and the daughter of Eddie and Angela Thomas. She is a 2012 Kosciusko High School graduate.

OLIVE BRANCH–Freshman Korea Lee Wicks, a criminology major and the daughter of Corey and Carla Wicks. She is a 2013 Olive Branch High School graduate.

PICAYUNE–Doctoral student Brigitte E. Martin, a veterinary medical sciences major and the daughter of Timothy and Diana Martin. She is a 2008 Peal River High School, 2010 Pearl River Community College and 2012 MSU magna cum laude biochemistry graduate.

SOUTHAVEN–Sophomore Jessica E. Keel, a business administration/marketing major and the daughter of Keith and Patricia Keel. She is a 2012 Southern Baptist Education Center High School graduate.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.–Freshman Kristen E. “Krissi” Furr, a communication/broadcasting major and the daughter of Duane and Annette Furr. She is a 2013 Tuscaloosa Academy graduate.
