155th To Get New Leader

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) – Col. Jeffrey P. Vann will take over command of the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team during ceremonies Friday at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center.

Vann will succeed Co. John M. Rhodes.

Major Gen. Augustus L. Collins, the adjutant general of Mississippi, will speak at the ceremony.

The 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team is comprised of about 3,500 soldiers in National Guard units throughout Mississippi to include unit locations in Tupelo, McComb, Starkville, Senatobia, Monticello and Meridian.

When 155th went to Iraq the first time in 2005, it was the largest single deployment of Mississippi Guard soldiers since World War II. The brigade also saw the most casualties of Mississippi Guard soldiers since World War II.

 

The 155th deployed again in 2009.
