2013 Governor’s Initiative for Volunteer Excellence (GIVE) Award Winners Announced

Jackson, MS— Volunteer Mississippi, in coordination with the Office of the Governor and First Lady Deborah Bryant, Honorary Chair of the Volunteer Mississippi Board of Commissioners, is pleased to announce the 2013 Governor’s Initiative for Volunteer Excellence (GIVE) Award honorees. The GIVE Awards honor individuals and groups who positively impact the state of Mississippi through their significant volunteer efforts. These esteemed community leaders’ stories serve as inspiration for National Volunteer Week, April 21-27, 2013.

The Commission and staff of Volunteer Mississippi congratulates these individuals and groups for their exemplary service to their communities, and will celebrate their achievements at a luncheon held in their honor April 22 at the Mississippi Museum of Art in downtown Jackson.

Volunteer Mississippi is the state office of volunteerism, with its mission to engage and support Mississippians of all ages and backgrounds in service to their communities. Established by executive order in 1994 as the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service (MCVS), Volunteer Mississippi has worked to encourage a culture of citizenship, service and responsibility to America. In partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning, Mississippi Department of Education, Mississippi Center for Nonprofits, and faith-based and community organizations statewide, MCVS is fostering community engagement and building volunteer capacity throughout the state.
