3 Judge Panel Rules Mississippi Anti-Abortion Law Unconstitutional

NEW ORLEANS, LA / JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – A Federal Appeals Court rules that a law that would effectively close Mississippi’s only abortion clinic is unconstitutional. The ruling stated that the 2012 law requiring the clinic’s physicians to have admitting privileges at a local hospital was unjust. All requests filed by physicians from the Jackson Women’s Health Organization were denied by the hospitals.

The Federal judges stated that Mississippi law did not follow guidelines set by the 1973 Federal Law that allows women to get abortions. The 2-1 decision was handed down Tuesday by a three judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
