MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Monroe County officials are asking for a little patience from the motoring public. They promise that patience will pay off in the long run.

Crews have begun doing prep work on many county roads as part of a three million dollar paving program starting this summer and fall. That means some roads are being ground up and new bases put down before they are sealed or paved. That can mean some rough driving. But it’ll be worth it once paving gets started.

“It’s been a long 18 months. It’s been kind of three parts here. We had to find the money and we had to put together a good plan and now we are in the implementation phase. I am really proud of what we did as a group coming together in picking the roads and I feel like everybody in Monroe County is going to really benefit from what we are doing right now for years to come,” explained District 5 Supervisor Robert Tomey.

Supervisors approved the bond program last fall. It doesn’t require a tax increase because the new bonds are replacing an old set that were paid off.
