3 Neshoba County Workers Fired

PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (AP) – Three Neshoba County workers were fired Friday as the state auditor’s office investigates overtime pay discrepancies.

The Neshoba Democrat reports the board of supervisors voted 4-1 to fire the three after a four-hour closed meeting. The terminations were effective immediately, County Attorney Wade White says bookkeeper Jill Watkins, payroll clerk Tammy Gomillion and purchasing clerk Faye Russell were fired for “employee conduct related to payroll.”

White says auditor’s office has discovered about $700,000 in overtime which was unaccounted for over the last four to 10 years.

The three employees were initially placed on administrative leave without pay.
