TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Volunteers from around the country are using their July 4th to help rebuild an American Legion post destroyed in last year’s tornado.

The Tupelo based ministry known as “8 Days of Hope” is organizing a project at American Legion Post 49.

For the next two weeks, skilled volunteers with the ministry are framing and roofing the 7,000 square foot building.

Organizers say it’s an honor to take part in the project.

“There’s no place I would rather be than working here today, even though there’s a little rain falling, no one is complaining . We are all smiling, we’re pumped. We have got some veterans in the community, some that have served in World Wars many years ago to share some of their experiences and it’s been really cool to have this part our July Fourth festivity,” said Steve Tybor with “8 Days of Hope”.

The volunteers served last summer as “8 Days of Hope” helped Tupelo rebuild.
