Aberdeen Insurance Costs Eat up Potential Savings

Aberdeen, MS (WCBI) — Aberdeen leaders thought they were saving $50,000.00 by switching insurance carriers, but that won’t be the case this year. Blue Cross Blue Shield notified the city that health care reform is increasing premiums by 9% for the city’s ninety employees, which comes down to an additional thirty-five dollars a month for individual employees. Now the savings Aberdeen had has dwindled to about $10,000.00. Alderman must decide whether to pay the additional cost from existing revenues or ask employees to pay some of the increase.
