ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) – The Aberdeen school district is one step closer to turning the district loose from state control.

Current district conservator, Mac Curlee, says a school board will be in place by July 1st, 2016.

The board will be an advisory one for the first year, completing several training courses provided by the Mississippi School Board Association.

Curlee says this board will be the first of its kind for the district.

The training will allow the board to see how well school boards function.

Curlee says on July 1st, 2017, the board will then assume their duties and be able to pass policy.
