LEE COUNTY, MS  (WCBI) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still investigating a fatal crash in Lee County that caused traffic disruption for over 2 hours.

Troopers responded to US 278, at approximately 1:30 pm, near the Lee/Pontotoc County Line.

Upon arriving it appeared Herbert L Rasche, 58, of Tupelo, was traveling north bound on County Road 41, in a 2007 International box-style truck, when he apparently attempted to cross US278 and pulled into the path of a 2014 Mack dump truck, operated by John A Golden, 54, of Pontotoc.

Rasche received fatal injuries from the crash and died on the scene. Tony Allen, 22, of Tupelo, a passenger in Rasche’s vehicle, was taken to NMMC with moderate injuries.

Golden was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Rasche and Allen were not wearing a seatbelt.

It took road crews over two-hours to clean the roadway. The dump truck was loaded with gravel which spilled on the roadway.
