Airbus to Build 12 New Choppers for Army

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — It looks like Airbus will be staying busy over the next few months.

The U.S. Army wants 12 more Lakota helicopters from the Lowndes County facility.

The 12 UH 72A choppers are part of a $65.8 million contract.

They’ll be used for a range of military missions from border security and training, to search and rescue.

Airbus has delivered about 350 Lakotas since 2006 for both U.S. and foreign military customers.

Airbus will start delivering the new helicopters in August 2017.
