COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -The holiday season makes for a full lobby and with only 50 seats per plane, flying space is limited.

“It looks like its about normal for this time of year, it’s normally pretty packed. I’ve tried to go home every Thanksgiving holiday and Christmas holiday and it’s verily typical of this time of year,” said traveler Chris Gray as he waited for his plane to depart Golden Triangle Regional Airport, which has seen planes leaving and arriving at almost 100 percent capacity this week.

With flights being filled since Sunday at the Golden Triangle Regional Airport, travelers are coming in early and making all the necessary arrangements right before the holiday season.

“I’d say I got here maybe a little earlier than normal just because I knew lines would be full and you know just get my ticket and get on the plane sooner maybe,” said traveler Chris Shumacker.

An estimated 43 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more this Thanksgiving weekend. For those taking flight this year, arriving to the airport on time is a top priority.

“I just brought my friend Luke here, he’s flying to Chicago. He definitely thought he had to be here early because he thought it would be busy, I guess it is, all the flights have been booked I guess,” said friend of traveler Jessica Comer.

These anxious parents are grateful for the recent expansion at the Golden Triangle Airport. A last-minute flight kept them from being separated from their children, adding one more blessing to be thankful for this year.

“Their flight was so crowded, so busy, they decided not to come first and we were looking for ticket and then my husband found a ticket at the last minute and said ‘ok, just come baby’ and so they are coming,” said mother Ellie Razzaghi.

While traveling comes with its downfalls, reuniting with loved ones this holiday season is worth the headache.
